Heather Mclarty has spent the last 20 plus years establishing herself as a well-known artist and craftsperson.  Her work has been selected for public parks and national art exhibitions.  Heather’s blacksmith shop is in a tipi in Los Angeles, CA.  She is also very accomplished with the repousse and high relief chasing techniques, which she teaches in classes across the country.  She continues to explore the endless ways to transform hard, industrial materials into lively, organic pieces of sculpture and functional art.

After learning steel fabrication as a props artisan in the theater industry she began working backwards technologically. Heather uses a mixture of modern and ancient methods to create her pieces.

She has a special affinity for sheet work, particularly repousse and high relief chasing. In 2001 she won a CBA grant to study high relief chasing with Kirsten Skiles at the Campbell Folk School.
After winning a Bedayn grant in 2005 she spent several transformative weeks in the Czech Republic and studied Louis XVI ornament and tooling from the master smith Alfred Habermann.  In May of 2010 I traveled to Ivano-Frankivsk to participate and exhibit in the Union of Ukrainian Blacksmiths Festival with blacksmiths from around the globe.
